Meet Your Neighbors!

After we moved into our Oakwood Homes I wanted to meet my neighbors! I think it's a far off concept these days, but it is so important to know and be aware of the others living around you.

Why is it so important to meet your neighbors? Can you introduce yourself even if you've lived by each other for years? How do you make meeting your neighbors less awkward?

It's so important to be kind to the people around us. We all know the golden rule of how we should treat others how we want to be treated. In a world where human interaction is minimized by the use of social media and the current state of social distancing - meeting your neighbors is a healthy way to root us all together and let others know that we care.

You can totally do this even if you have lived by each other for years! It's as easy as making extra cookies and telling them you went a little overboard. Or it could be as intentional as writing a note with your number telling them if they ever need anything you are only a text away.

Whatever you do don't overthink it. Just make it short sweet and quick! Let them know that you are not a stranger, and that your are interested in who they are and what they do.

Here are some creative ideas of ways you can meet your neighbors:

  • Bake you're heart out. Here are some of my favorite easy recipes that you can make and gift a plate to your neighbors. CLICK FOR RECIPES HERE

  • Gift them baby succulents. They are so easy to take care of and fairly inexpensive. CLICK HERE TO FIND SOME

  • Leave them a note or a humorous card with your information and how they can contact you if they want to get to know you more!

  • Do an act of service. The seasons are changing soon and you could rake their yard while doing yours or shovel both of your driveways.

  • Ask them before donating something. Offer up old coffee machines, clothes, or furniture to see if it's anything they'd like/need before you toss it to the curb or donate it.

  • See if they have any recommendations for food or services in the area.

  • Host a block BBQ. Let people know that you'll have some free burgers and soda if they want to stop by and meet the rest of the neighbors too!

  • Invite them to go on a walk with you or take your dogs to the park together.

Whatever you decide to do pair it with the conscious effort to come in contact with your neighbors instead of avoiding them. We all need each other! Try and go out of your way to make a positive impact in your sphere of influence.

Good luck! I would love to see your photos and hear your stories of what you're doing with your neighbors. Tag me on instagram @SOPHMB_ or FACEBOOK.
