Moving Tips and Tricks

As many of you know my husband, doggie, and I will be moving NEXT WEEK into our brand new Oakwood Home, and WE CAN NOT WAIT.

We've begun packing up our 1 bed apartment/1 bath apartment have a small storage unit of things we have collected along the way.

Here are some tips I've gathered to make moving as easy as possible:

Bedroom

  • Keep all of your close on hangers. Place in boxes or put garbage bags around them. It will make moving into your new closet 10x quicker.

  • Throw away things you can't find pairs to. If you can't find it in the move you won't find it in your new home.

  • Place your jewelry in an empty/clean egg carton to prevent tangling.

  • Sometimes you can remove your dresser drawers and keep your clothes inside to minimize reorganizing.

  • Get your important files organized before hand so that they are all in one place.

Kitchen

  • Use all of your dish towels to help pad your dishes.

  • Use rubber bands to group cooking utensils together and ceranwrap to cover your silverware holder.

  • Eat up your snacks ahead of time.

  • Make sure to label your boxes "fragile" in a couple spots on the box so no one accidentally misses it.

Decor

  • Use blankets in-between important frames and decor items.

  • When you take wall decor down plaster the holes so you go don't miss any.

  • Donate or sell the things you will not hang back up on your walls in your new space.

General

  • Label boxes clearly- what they are and what room they should end up in. This will help whomever is helping you move ask less questions.

  • Solicit for boxes and newspapers 2 months a head of time so that you can obtain all of the materials you need cost free.

  • Dedicate an area of your space for boxes that are "READY TO GO"

Moving is never easy, but don't let it overwhelm you. Solicit for more help than you may need. Many hands make the work load light! Also, don't feel like everything has to be done in one day. Give your self a reasonable deadline of a couple weeks so that you don't procrastinate projects. Enjoy the new memories that are to come.

HAPPY PACKING
